EmbassyPlace’s Last Minute Gift Guide
Washington, DC, December 2024
Although as a city we’re known for our proclivity to indulge in political and philosophical discussion at every turn, one thing is clear: next year, like this one, literally anything could happen.
But let's not dwell on all that. Instead, let's talk about you. We’re sure you’ve had a crazy year, whether writing diplomatic memos or lobbying the halls of congress. So now it’s time to treat yourselves and loved ones.
Now, we’re sure you probably forgot to actually take care of your Christmas shopping, in line with all of us. So our lovely editors have you covered and picked out some of our favorite last minute gifts, because we also spent a little too much time doomscrolling Tik Tok and Reels in 2024.
May our New Years resolutions involve lots of REAL TIME SPENT with family and friends, and involve wisdom, love and learning.
PS: we initially wrote this with GPT but it was cringe, so we went the old fashioned blogosphere route, and put all our love into it.
Gifts to Keep You Beautiful (Even Under Fluorescents)
DC nightlife lighting is merciless, but that doesn’t mean you have to be. These tools will keep you looking like a 10, whether you're at a dimly lit networking event or under the soul-sucking fluorescents of a K Street office.

Get it here —This isn’t your average ChapStick. SPF 25, subtle scent, and hydration to withstand the coldest inaugural season yet. Don’t be that chap with chapped lips. it’s a turn off, lads.

Get it here - It’s lipstick, blush, and a confidence boost in one. Jeff Bezos once said, his favorite trait in a woman would be her potential ability to get him out of a jail in a foreign country. Why? Because versatility is sexy.

Get it here - The eyeliner for the whoever doesn’t have time for touch-ups. Smudge-proof, waterproof, apocalypse-proof.

Politics aside that’s some sexy eyeliner if you ask me…

Get it here - Instagram-worthy brows, minus the influencer effort. Precision, power, perfection. Don’t let the Kardashians out-eyebrow you once again in 2025.
For when the night’s finally over: Neutrogena Makeup Remover Wipes, Gentle on the Eye Area, Ultra-Soft Cleansing Facial Towelettes

Get it here - Because no one wants to wake up looking like last night’s drama.

Buy it here - Luxury for your lips, so when you wake up, your SO is ok with a morning smooch.
For the Home (or Whatever Passes for One)
You’re either nesting or barely there, but your space deserves a little love regardless. The right touches can make even the tiniest DC studio feel like a Capitol Hill mansion (well, almost).

Get it here - Perfect for stews, braises, or showing up your ex’s new SO at Friendsgiving.

Get it here —Light one and pretend you’re in a Parisian chalet instead of your tiny Adams Morgan apartment.

Get it here - Because even your hot water deserves aesthetic excellence and immaculate vibes.
A Final Word for the Year That Was… and the Year to Come
2024 was predictably insane, as another edition of our crazy 2020s, and 2025 will probably keep that fire blazing. We hope maybe not as much, and if so, in a more peaceful and delightful direction.
But here’s the thing: no matter who’s in charge, DC thrives on resilience, reinvention, and an undeniable ability to party through the chaos.
Our guide isn’t just about gifts; it’s about doing more of less, and trying to inject some lightheartedness to our all too serious lives.
So best of luck on your midnight policy briefings, consular missions, foreign espionage, or on the Tinder date that turns into an 18-hour Netflix binge, or whatever else you’re up to over the holidays and next year. Shop boldly. Gift generously. Live provocatively. Support EmbassyPlace. And remember: the future belongs to those who look good, feel good, and know how to fake it till they make it.
You Need Renters Insurance. Here’s Why
Renting a home in Washington, DC offers access to vibrant city life, but it also comes with responsibilities that many overlook—like securing renters insurance. While it may seem like an unnecessary expense, renters insurance is an affordable safeguard against unexpected events.
Washington, DC, is no stranger to risks such as theft, fire, or water damage. Renters insurance protects your personal belongings, covering the cost of replacement or repair if they’re damaged or stolen. Imagine a fire in your building—your landlord’s insurance covers the structure, but not your possessions. Without renters insurance, you’re left paying out of pocket to replace everything from furniture to electronics.
Renters insurance includes liability coverage, which is crucial in a city with close living quarters. If a guest is injured in your apartment or you accidentally cause damage to a neighbor’s unit, this coverage can prevent costly lawsuits or repair bills.
In DC, where rents are already high, renters insurance is surprisingly affordable, often costing less than $30 per month. It provides peace of mind knowing you’re protected from financial setbacks.
Don’t wait until disaster strikes. A small investment in renters insurance today can save you from significant financial stress tomorrow
